How To Choose the Best Toiletry Bag for Travel
There are a lot of different travel toiletry bags to choose from! There are quite a few different styles. Bags are made of different materials. There are small and large toiletry bags. How to find the one for yourself?
1. What Size Toiletry Bag Should I Buy? Should I Get a Hanging Toiletry Bag
How many things are you planning to carry? How long will be your trip? You will need a lot more stuff on a month-long trip than on a weekend trip. So, the size of the toiletry bag won’t be the same. If you plan to carry full size bottles of shampoo and body wash, you’ll need a larger bag.
If you are planning to carry a lot of different items, make-up and full size bottles, you should better get one of the hanging toiletry organizers. Those usually are large enough and have several compartments and various small pockets and elastic straps for small items like make-up brushes.
Many of hanging toiletry bags have a removable hanging hook. It means you can hung this kind of a toiletry bag in the bathroom. It opens up nicely and you will clearly see all the items you have packed. And more important – you’ll be able to access them very quickly. No more digging through the only one compartment with a lot of stuff in it, and doing that with one hand while holding the bag in the other hand. Yay for hanging toiletry bags!
2. Compartments and Pockets
Depends on the length of your trip, the choice of toiletries and make-up and, of course, your preferences. Some people would go for the cheapest and simplest option, with only one main compartment, because they don’t mind digging through all the things.
However, many people prefer to organize their stuff, so they’ll prefer a toiletry bag with several compartments.

3. Is the Toiletry Bag Suitable for Flying? What to Do If It’s Not?
If you are traveling with a carry on only, remember, that passengers are allowed to bring a clear quart-sized (approx. 1 liter) zip-lock bag of liquids, aerosols and creams, which are limited to travel-sized containers – not larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Most of the bags I have reviewed are made of fabric and aren’t transparent, so it means that when flying you might need to take out some of your toiletries and put them in another bag.
My advice – put some of the biggest liquids (like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, deodorant and toothpaste) in a transparent zip-lock bag and place this zip-lock bag into your toiletry bag. Smaller items, like make-up can stay in the toiletry bag. Later, already at your destination, take all the liquids out of the zip-lock bag and put them in the toiletry bag. I always store the liquids like that and I’ve never had any issues with airport security.
However, there also toiletry bags like My Travel Tubes TSA Approved 3-1-1 Quart Sized Toiletry Bag. This exact bag is transparent, with only one compartment, a zipper on the top, and it’s quart-sized (1 liter). There are also other similar bags that come with travel sized bottles (3.4 ounces / 100 milliliters).

This eBags toiletry bag has 4 separate compartments. The right compartment of the eBags Pack-it-Flat bag is expandable, and it expands up to 3.5″ (9 cm). Left section is 3.75″ wide and lined with PVC film, so you can store damp contents in there, or bottles that might leak. The width of the whole toiletry bag is 15” (38 cm). It is only 2.25″ (6 cm) thick.
The compartments of the toiletry bag feature several mesh pockets for small items like razor, floss and toothbrush.
This toiletry bag is made for full size bottles. It may look like a man’s toiletry bag, but it’s not. A lot of ladies will love the Eagle Creek Pack-It Quick Trip toiletry bag, too. It is simple, practical and compact. This toiletry bag is available in several colors.
It’s rather compact and low, so it doesn’t take up much space. Perfect for those who are going on a short trip or just for those who don’t need much toiletries at all. It may look even tiny from the picture, but it’s not that small – there’s plenty of room for all the basics!
The Eagle Creek Pack-It Quick Trip toiletry bag is made of durable 300D Poly Micro-Weave material. This toiletry bag has 3 compartments – full zippered main compartment and two zippered side pockets (one of them is a mesh pocket) for small items like razors, toothbrushes and floss. The side pockets are a rather good option for storing make-up brushes. The toiletry bag has a side handle, too.
You’ll be able to fit in travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and face wash. As well as a full-size roll-on deodorant, a razor and a few other small items, like, mascara, eyeliners, nail polish.

This toiletry bag is made of super-lightweight, water resistant and ripstop 40D nylon material. It has a built-in hook and 2 straps at the back. Making it possible to attach it to another bag or backpack using these straps.
In my opinion, this toiletry bag is about the perfect size for traveling with a carry on only, when certain rules apply for transporting liquids. A see-through sleeve can be used instead of a zip-lock bag. Theoretically, yes, it’s not TSA compliant, but the security check at many airports may not be that strict. Take a clear plastic zip-lock bag with you, just to be on the safe side.
Dimensions of the toiletry bag: 9” x 3” x 6” (23 x 8 x 15 cm). As you can see from the dimensions, the bag is rather compact. Making it a great choice for those who are going on a short trip or just for minimalist travelers. It will be perfect for long-term hikers, too, both men and women. As normally you won’t take all your make-up and toiletries, when hiking, let’s say, the PCT, because you can’t afford to overpack!
4. Cableinthebay TSA Approved 3-1-1 Clear Travel Toiletry Bag Review
Yes, it looks small, but it is still quart-sized (TSA compliant)! It is 3 dimensional – deeper than standard zip-lock bags! This toiletry bag has luggage quality zipper with reinforced stitched seams.
The Cableinthebay toiletry bag is made of sturdy plastic, which is strong enough to stand upright without any problem! Take the bag out of your luggage and place it in a cupboard in your hotel bathroom! No need to unpack all your stuff, as, thanks to bag’s zipper, it is easy to reach into the bag and take out whatever you need! Unlike with a zip-lock bag!
Is it the best TSA approved toiletry bag? Yes, it’s one of the best.
Dimensions: 7.2” x 5” x 2” (18.3 x 12.7 x 5 cm).
5. Dot&Dot Hanging Toiletry Bag Review
The toiletry bag is made of water resistant Honeycomb fabric. It’s zip-around and has a side handle. Thanks to the 2 large mesh compartments inside the toiletry bag all the contents are visible and easy to access. There are elastic bands at the bottom mesh compartment to hold bottles in place. A hook is attached to the flap, which has a few small pockets as well.
Yes, the Dot&Dot bag has a plenty of space. So I’d say that this bag is not really for a carry on traveler. It’s rather large and wide (see the dimensions below). You can can easily put 4-5 lbs (1.8 – 2.3 kg) worth of toiletries in it. This bag will be the best hanging travel toiletry bag for those who check in their suitcases or for those who travel by land. It can be used at home as well – as an organizer for smaller bottles and make-up.
It can hold full size (8.5 oz / 250 ml) shampoo and body wash bottles if those are placed horizontally.

6. NeatPack Compact Hanging Toiletry Bag Review
The NeatPack Compact Hanging toiletry bag is the one I am using right now.
It is made of durable, water-resistant 420D nylon fabric. The inside of the bag is lined (with the same nylon fabric) to reduce leaks. Note, that this material isn’t fully waterproof. So, if the whole bottle gets emptied inside the bag, the liquid most probably will go through!
When you’ll open the main compartment of the toiletry bag you’ll see that there is a large open compartment with 2 small mesh pockets at the back. There’s a small zippered mesh pocket at the front of the main compartment. And there’s a clear zippered leak-proof plastic pocket on the flap (pocket’s dimensions 5.9″ x 4.7″ / 15 x 12 cm).
There are 2 zippered side compartments which open all the way down. Each of those 2 compartments have two elastic loops and a mesh pocket on the flap. It helps to secure small things (like mascara and eye liners) so they don’t fall out when side pockets are opened.
The bag features a top handle and sturdy metal hanging hook.
Despite the fact that it’s a compact toiletry bag (there’s a larger version, too) I was able to fit all my basic travel toiletry essentials, some make-up and even two 250 ml shampoo and shower gel bottles!
Remember, if you’re traveling with a carry on only you aren’t allowed to take large bottles of liquids and cremes on board! All liquids must be poured into individual 100 ml containers, or travel-sized toiletries should be bought. There are also other rules on travelling with restricted liquids. For instance – all containers must fit into a clear, plastic zip-lock bag. My advice – put all the liquids in a zip-lock bag, and put it inside the toiletry bag!

The bag is made of cotton, and the inside of the bag lined with PVC (plastic). You can easily clean the inside of the bag, without even washing – just wipe it off with a damp cloth or wet wipe! It is made of two different shades of brown high-grade PU split leather. The interior of the Vetelly toiletry bag is made from a combination of canvas and leather.
The bag has a reinforced hanger and sturdy stainless steel zippers. It is a tri-fold bag with 2 roomy zippered compartments and two smaller snap-fastened square pockets. All of these compartments are nice and roomy, and the bag can hold a lot of stuff.
Dimensions: 12” x 8” (31 x 20 cm). The depth of the bag depends on the amount of stuff you pack in it.
